Who writes in Il Caffè and how it works.

We study work in hospitality with data, and tell it with the help of people who know more than we do. We write for the people who work front and back of house, and for the people who open a venue every morning.

How we work

From the source to the article, in four steps.

  1. 01

    The sources

We start from the sources: the platform's data (over 225,000 professionals, and over 2,500 restaurant and hospitality companies since 2021), the Observatory, the job offers with the salary written down that we read for Il Polso. Then collective agreements, INPS, ISTAT, the Official Gazette and books.

  2. 02

    Who writes

The writer is a person who answers for the piece, with an expert alongside when needed: a labour lawyer for contracts, a payroll consultant for payslips, a chef for technique.

  3. 03

    The checks

Before it goes out we check the sources one by one and reread the Italian. If a figure can't be verified, it stays out.

  4. 04

    Where it comes out

You find what we write here, in the GustoHR newsletter every other Tuesday, in the Observatory bulletins, in books like Oltre il Menù and on our social channels.

The editorial charter

Seven commitments to our readers. They also apply to people who write with us.

  1. 1Sources in sightNext to every figure there is the link to where it comes from. A blog quoting another blog does not count as a source.
  2. 2The answer firstIf you are in a hurry you find what you need right away, in the "In short" box.
  3. 3Both sides of the counterWhen we criticise a bad practice, we don't tar everyone with the same brush.
  4. 4Real bylinesWhoever writes has a name, a face and skills that can be checked.
  5. 5Declared collaborationsWhen a piece is made with a company, it says so at the top.
  6. 6Clear datesUnder the title you find when it came out and when we updated it.
  7. 7How we use AIWe use Anthropic's artificial intelligence to look for sources and prepare first drafts, and Google's for illustrations. Every piece is checked by a person who answers for it.

There's room for you too.

If you live or study this industry and have something to say, pitch a piece to the editorial team.
