Hotel Sant'Orso

We stayed for 3 nights in February, re-visitibg Cogne after 10 years. It was a beautiful stay. Despite being on the older side of the hotel, the rooms were still practical, clean and well appointed. The staff were all friendly and the restaurant food was beautiful.

We had the pleasure of meeting Renata (hotel owner) on our second night. She was so kind and generous to us, returning the next night to gift us some books on the hotel and region. She went out of her way to ensure we had a pleasant stay.

Following four evening meals at the hotel, I found it to be beautifully maintained, with excellent décor and a strong sense of traditional values. That said, it is not well suited to vegans or guests with food intolerances. Butter and milk feature heavily in the cooking, and there appears to be little scope to adapt recipes or preparation methods.

As a traditional family hotel, it may not align with the expectations of modern travellers who require dietary flexibility. Guests on prepaid half-board packages should be aware that assurances from travel agents about dietary accommodation may not reflect the reality on site.

Other members of my group greatly enjoyed their meals, and this review is not a criticism of the food quality, but rather an informative note for those with specific dietary needs.

My wife and myself visited this hotel in early December 2025.
We have very busy lives and it had been a very long time since we had taken time out.
I booked their most expensive suite for 3 nights.
We arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday to the coldest reception I have ever experienced, the reception didn’t even raise her head to say hello, just asked for documents my wife and I exchanged a glance thinking that this is a great start.

The room was fine although hardly any windows and certainly zero view. Remember this is the most expensive room.

The hotel bar is great as is the restaurant with finally a friendly a welcoming staff.

Our biggest dissatisfaction/ disappointment was the spa area in its entirety.
Personally I have never been to a 4 star hotel where children are allowed to run around playing making much noise in the spa area.
Forget the pool with only 6 loungers.
Forget the outside hot tub , space for 4 people so book your spot. It’s a joke.

Remember our visit was low season.

We politely informed the receptionist that we shall leave a day early, for which I was charged in full including the breakfast.

I communicated my displeasure to the manager via email, to be informed that this is a family hotel and children are welding the spa areas.

So if that’s you and want to take your children to a child friendly spa hotel this is the place.
Otherwise if you are like me, a father of 5 wonderful children searching for a rare moment of peace then if you have been lucky enough to read this keep looking. I have stayed quite nearby many times in the most charming places

"We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Sant'Orso. The location is absolutely perfect, right in the heart of Cogne with stunning views of the Gran Paradiso. The facilities were excellent (especially the spa, which was a highlight), and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. A truly relaxing escape, we can't wait to return!

Nice view and friendly staff. Rooms and spa are quite small - much smaller than visible from photos online. The chemicals in the pool are so strong you can smell them throughout the hotel and in when inside the bubble bath your eyes will burn. Open air bubble bath is better. In my room I found hairs on the wall of the shower which staff did not remove despite my complaints. The walls are very thin - I could hear my neighbors conversations quite well. Breakfast was ample and tasty.
